Kristen Ledlow interviews Giannis after triple-double on opening night

THIS IS WHAT WE DO:

“Giannis, earlier today you had a smile on your face,” TNT sideline reporter Kristen Ledlow said after the Milwaukee Bucks opened the 2019-20 campaign with a 117-111 win over James Harden and the Houston Rockets.

“You told me that you were excited to play a real NBA game to show everybody what your team had been working on. What does this comeback win say about this team’s readiness?”

“It says a lot,” Antetokounmpo replied after posting a 30-point triple-double during the victory. “We stay together, we play together, we win together, we lose together.

“Even though we faced adversity and we weren’t playing our best basketball that we can play in the first quarter and the second quarter, we came back out and were focused.

“We were able to move the ball, execute, and we just executed our game plan really well and we just stayed together.”

“I know you won’t engage in MVP conversations, so I’m not going to start one,” Ledlow added. “But what message did you want your performance to send?”

“Nothing,” Giannis said. “I’m just here to do whatever it takes to help my team win. Unfortunately, I had six fouls and wasn’t able to stay on the court like my team wanted. But my team, without me, they did a great job of executing and moving the ball.

“And this is what we do, this is what we do–we play together. And whatever we do, hopefully we can get a win at the end of the day.”

“Before this game, your All-Star teammate, Khris Middleton, told me that he thinks this team can improve upon its league-best 60 wins last season. Simply put, you’re 1-0, how can you improve upon tonight?”

“1-0, that’s all we can do,” Giannis said. “We take it day-by-day, now we gotta play the Miami Heat. We’re going to focus on that, lock into that, we gotta take it one day at a time.”
