David Aldridge interviews Tim Duncan after Spurs eliminate Thunder in 2014

WE’LL DO IT THIS TIME:

“Tim, no Tony Parker in the second half,” David Aldridge said as he began his postgame interview for TNT with Tim Duncan following the Spurs win over Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the 2014 Western Conference Finals.

“They gave you a great punch in the fourth-quarter comeback. Where did you dig in the overtime to find enough scoring and find enough offense to win this thing?”

“You know, we wanted it badly,” Duncan replied after his team earned a trip back to the NBA Finals for a rematch with LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

“We felt we gave it away in the last couple minutes. But we still felt that we could take control of the game. The matchups, they put it inside to me in the matchup against Ibaka and I just did what I could.”

“Against Ibaka, great shot-blocker, what is it you’re trying to do when you post him up?” Aldridge asked after Tim went for 19 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

“Just trying to neutralize his jumping and his blocked shots. Just trying to get underneath him and then use my size to get overtop of him.”

“You guys waited a year. Finals last year was a devastating loss. You came back, you had the best record in the league. What does it mean to you to get back to the Finals and get another shot at Miami?”

“It’s unbelievable to regain that focus after, exactly, that devastating loss that we had last year. But we’re back here and we’re excited about it.

“We’ve got four more to win. We’ll do it this time.”
